Weird girls WI 4

Skálafell

Drive Skálafellsvegur (434 on the map) until it ends. It changes into a powerline maintenance road once it passes through the big parking lot below the old chairlift. A few large potholes can be found on the maintenance road so drive carefully, especially in heavy snow. If you manage to drive the road to the very end you will park at GPS 64°13’46.8″N 21°26’45.7″W .

On foot you head west and up the hill. The waterfall is in Bolagil (see map). GPS 64°13’54.7″N 21°27’44.8″W coordinates are taken in the canyon below the waterfall. It won’t be visible until you have walked most of the way west, and you will see the very top of it. The approach will take around 20 min if the road was driven to the very end, but roughly 30 min from the big parking lot by the old chairlift. The waterfall is at approx 500 m altitude and faces southeast. The setting offers a reprieve from winds since it is surrounded by rock walls. The waterfall will often come in early in the season.

The waterfall is about 40 m tall and it is possible to choose harder and easier WI4 lines up. It is easiest to descend on foot down the hill on the eastern side. It is also possible to abseil but for this you will need two ropes or one 80 meter rope, if you want to get down with only one V-thread.
