Grjótagilsgóssið WI 4
Mynd óskast
Area: Mýrar west of Höfn in southeast Iceland
Location: This route is in the gorge you look into straight ahead when you drive west across Hornafjarðarfljót bridge (hossubrúin). There is a short gravel road on the west side of the small stream that comes from the gorge. There are couple of unclimbed route variations possible on the left of this route, after you have climbed the first pitch. We walked down the scree slope few hundred meters northeast from the finish of the route.
Description: We climbed the route in 4 about 25-35 meter picthes. The ice was cold but plenty of it. The first pitch was the highest, and was vertical for a while. The second pitch was lower and possible to choose steep or not steep versions. The third pitch would almost have possible to solo past on the left, but we choose to climb the steep version of it on the right. The top pitch was vertical again for few meters.
FF: Óskar Arason and Einar R. Sigurðsson, 22/12 2010, 125 meters
